Tunji-Ojo made the announcement at the commencement of hearing on Monday. According to him, his decision was informed by the need to ensure transparency and fairness in the hearing and to protect his integrity.

He said, he was also stepping down to prove to Nigerian citizens that he was not on any revenge mission.
It would be recalled that on the first day of the hearing, the Acting Managing Director of the NDDC, Mr Kemebradikumo Pondei, walked out on the Committee saying he was not confident of getting justice if Tunji-Ojo presides over the hearing.
Addressing his colleagues and guests on Monday, the Ondo lawmaker said he read in the national daily’s statements credited to the Acting Managing Director of NDDC alleging that he was on a revenge mission.

Tunji-Ojo said, he isn't on a revenge mission, and his stepping down would prove just that.
