This is coming after members of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), on Saturday engaged Nigerian troops at a military base in Askira, Askira Uba Local Government Area of Borno State in a gun battle.

A battle which claimed the lives a Brigade Commander, Brigadier General MF Babayo, Brigadier General Zirkus and several other soldiers.
In a statement released on Sunday night, ISWAP had claimed that 17 soldiers were killed and that tanks, ammunition and varieties of weapons were captured by them.
According to the insurgents, 13 soldiers were killed when its fighters attacked troops at a military base in Askira town while four others including Brigadier General Zirkus were killed during an ambush at Bulguma, a few kilometres from Askira.
The army however claimed that over 50 ISWAP commanders were killed in a counter-offensive in Askira, Uba council, Borno on Monday, November 15.
According to the Army spokesman Brigadier-General Onyema Nwachukwu in a statement released, their vehicles were also destroyed.
“Troops eliminated top commanders of ISWAP as well as foot soldiers. The gallant troops also unleashed massive destruction on the terrorists’ mine-resistant ambush protected (MRAP) vehicle and several gun trucks,” the statement read in part.
However, Simon Ekpa reacted to the reports, alleging that the Nigerian army’s claims were false.
