Suspected Ambazonia Fighters Invade Taraba, Kill Village Head, Burn Down Village

Some suspected Ambazonia separatists from Cameroon have allegedly attacked a community in Takum Local Government Area of Taraba State.

Senate Deputy Minority Leader, Emmanuel Bwacha, revealed that the suspects gunned down the village head and some residents of Manga community, which is 20 kilometers away from Kashimbilla Dam.

It would be recalled that the Ambazonia separatist group, the Interim Government of Southern Cameroon Ambazonia, had on September 9, 2021 dismissed allegations that it had plans to attack Nigeria.

The group had accused the Cameroonian government of plots to put them on a collision course with the Nigerian government by disguising the Cameroonian soldiers as ‘Ambazonians’ to attack Nigeria.

The group said a recent military collaboration pact signed between the Nigerian government and the French Cameroon officials was a ploy by the French Cameroon government to make the Nigerian government believe that Ambazonia’s quest for the restoration of its independence constitutes an immediate threat to Nigeria’s security.

Coming under a point of order during Senate plenary on Wednesday, Senator Bwacha who represents Taraba South, said the residents were killed during an invasion of the community by the Cameroonian separatists, who also burnt down the village.

He revealed that the separatists’ invasion threatened Nigeria’s territorial sovereignty as their motive is yet to be ascertained.

“I rise this morning to draw the attention of our country men and particularly our security agencies to this unfortunate incident which undermines our integrity and sovereignty as a nation. “Takum local government houses the 23 Battalion of the Nigerian Army, and so Mr. President, it is my humble submission that the Nigerian Army should rise to the challenge and curb this wanton territorial expansion.
