moment, the cattles were being carried downstream after heavy downpours in Sokoto State.

This is most likely caused by increase in water levels where the cows were grazing.

The video which was recorded by a resident showed the animals being carried away by a strong current as they struggled to keep their heads above the water.

Sokoto have always been prone to floods, with the worst hit communities being the Kiyawa village in Goronyo District and Gamgam in Shagari Local Council District where nearly all the houses and farmlands go under water when the flood comes.

Most of the communities affected are usually located on the banks of the Sokoto and Rima rivers.

In September 2007, more than 5,000 people were made homeless by flooding in and around the northern city of Sokoto.

The Sokoto State Government, had on August 2019, advised residents in flood-prone areas to relocate to safer places, saying it has provided temporary areas of accommodation equipped with health, water and other amenities for them.
