The appointment was contained in a letter sent to the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, seeking confirmation.

However, it was discovered that the twelfth appointee on the list, whose name is Mr. Tobias Okwuru Chukwuemeka, representing Ebonyi state, is deceased.

The deceased was a former federal lawmaker, who represented the Ezza South/Ikwo Federal Constituency at the 7th House of Representatives.

It was also gathered that he was a pioneer majority leader of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly. He had died on February 27 of over-weight related ailment. He was aged 59.

The former commissioner for information and state orientation, Dr. Chike Onwe who confirmed Okwuru’s demise then, described it as “painful”.

This is not the first time president Buhari is appointing dead persons into government positions.

In December 2017, he stoked controversy in the country after it was detected that a number of dead persons had been ‘given’ positions as board members. Critics had described it as a sign of utter incompetence on his part.
