A Pastor And His Sister Have Been Arrested For Child Theft

The Police on Friday arrested and arraigned a Pastor, Stanley Maduka, 40 and his sister, Glory Uma, 50 in an Ikeja
magistrates’ court for conniving to steal an 8-month-old baby boy.

Maduka was charged with two counts of conspiracy and child theft, his sister Glory Uma on the other hand, was charged with receiving a stolen baby. Both siblings pleaded not guilty to the charges.

ASP Emuerhi Benson, the Prosecuting Counsel revealed that the offence was committed on 18th October at Iyana Ishashi Bus Stop, Magboro area of Lagos.

The Pastor who is connected to Encounter with God Ministries, located at Toll gate Bus stop, Off Badagry Expressway was said to have connived with his sister to 'buy' an 8-month-old baby boy suspectedly stolen.

He reportedly disclosed that Maduka had said that he met with one Mrs Chimecherem, who is presently at large and claimed to be a victim of domestic violence who needed to raise some money. In his words;

“Maduka then agreed with her to sell the baby for N250,000 and contacted his sister, Uma who has been married for 16 years without a child and told her about the arrangement.

“They paid N235,000 to Chimecherem, who claimed to be the baby’s mother. She told them that she had three other children and couldn’t take care of the baby.”

The Prosecutor added that on 27th October at Marogbo area in Lagos, based on information received by the operatives of State Intelligence Bureau(BIS), the defendants were arrested with the baby. He said the biological parents of the baby are yet to be identified.

Olufunke Sule–Amzat presiding over the case set the defendants bail at the sum of N200,000 each with two sureties each in like sum who must provide three years proof of tax payment to the Lagos State Government. The case was adjourned till 23rd January 2020.

The Baby was taken to a Juvenile center, the Prosecutor disclosed.
