There was palpable tension at Ovim community, in the Isuikwuato Local Government Area of Abia State, after a soldier allegedly killed a 28-year-old man, Chinonso Nwachukwu.
According to reports from residents, the soldier, who was in the company of his colleagues had invaded the community at about 9pm on Monday, January 3.

It was learnt that the soldiers had accused the deceased (Nwachukwu) of blocking their way but as the victim reportedly stood up to give way for them, one of the military officers shot him point blank in the head, killing him on the spot.
The traditional ruler of Amune community and Okwu II, HRH Eze Chigbu Ikwulagu, while reacting to the development said community leaders were in a meeting over the incident.
“There are different versions of what happened and we are still investigating. We will come out with a statement on the matter,” he added.
A source told Punch Metro that military personnels have surrounded the community.

An official of the Nigerian Army, who confirmed the incident, disclosed that the matter had been reported to the Army headquarters and that investigation was currently going on.
