Video: Again, Ghanaian Lawmakers Fight Dirty Over New Bill

There was pandemonium on the floor of the parliament as Ghanaian legislators, once again, engaged themselves in a fisticuff over a new bill, Nicolekaima's blog reports.

It would be recalled that in January, the legislators also engaged themselves in a brawl following the election of a new speaker of the 8th parliament of the 4th Republic.

Some members of the opposition National Democratic Congress had disrupted the election leading to several commotions in the house since the inauguration of the 8th parliament began.

The Opposition members tried to whisk away the ballot box as election for the speaker was underway. It took the prompt intervention of heavily armed military and police officers to restore calm.

In November, another fight occurred. According to a report by Accra based Starr FM, the lawmakers allegedly fought because of a disagreement on the tidal waves disaster in the Volta Region.

In the video, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament for South Dayi, Rockson Defeamokpor was seen exchanging words with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Nhyiaeso, Stephen Amoah and the NPP MP for Effutu, Alexander Afenyo Markin.

The most recent fight now is reportedly due to a new bill called, “E-Levy Bill”. The debate was to ascertain whether the bill should be put under certificate of urgency or not.

As expected, a fight broke out as opposing parties threw punches at each other on National television.

This has stirred reactions as some people have said that the 8th parliament is notorious for embarrassing themselves and is the worst in Ghana’s history.
