Another Building Collapse In Lagos Claims One Life, Six Others Injured


A three-story building has collapsed at 20, Freeman Street, Lagos Island at about 3 am, Saturday, July 11, killing one person while six other persons were rescued.
According to reports, the occupants were fast asleep when the building came crashing down. Neighbours in nearby houses swung into action, alerting the emergency team.

When the emergency team arrived, the first victim that was recovered was a male child who was confirmed dead on the spot. 

However, other six other occupants of the building were rescued alive and medical treatment was given to them by Lagos State Ambulance Services (LASSMBUS), while the deceased was deposited at a morgue. 

Buildings collapsing in Lagos has been in the news for a while now but has recently be toned down a bit with government taking the lead in ensuring that all buildings with the threat of collapse are pulled by the government agencies in charge of these duties.

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) came on the scene just in time to rescue the victims.
The Southwest Coordinator, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Ibrahim Farinloye said; 
“Nine to 10 people are suggested to be living in the building. Efforts are on to rescue the remaining people.”
