Reps Ask Health Minister To Provide Whereabouts Of Chinese Doctors

In what seems to be a twist of events, the members of the house of representatives seem not to be contented with the recent reports about the whereabouts of the Chinese doctor who came into Nigeria on April 8.

Recall on Monday, May 18, the managing director of China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC), explained that the 15 Chinese medical experts that arrived in the country on April 8 were in the company’s care.

Yigao had disclosed this in Abuja while reacting to questions raised by the media and opposition parties on May 14, as to the whereabouts of the Chinese medical team.

The House of Representatives has therefore asked the Minister of Health, Osagie Ehanire to provide the House with the full details of the whereabouts of the Chinese medical team in Nigeria, to be given to the Speaker as agreed during their meetings on April 7, 2020.

The House also mandated its committees on Interior, Health Care Services, National Intelligence and Foreign Affairs to investigate the Chinese team, their whereabouts and to know who they really are.

This decision was sequel to a motion of urgent public importance moved by Shehu Koko on Tuesday during plenary.

Mr. Shehu in his motion explained that the Minister of health was giving contradictory statements on the status of the Chinese doctors.

Here's what he said;

“The Minister recently said that ‘The CCECC is the host of the doctors, I do not know their whereabouts, there seems to be so much interest surrounding their whereabouts, they are staff of the CCECC, I would like if people are not disturbing my office’ this statement is contradictory to the one he said to the Speaker during the meeting.

“Following concerns raised by Nigerians, it is incumbent on our part to investigate the true situation of this Chinese doctors.”
