Meet The Young Nigerian Woman Who Is Building Nigeria's First Gold Refinery

Nere Teriba is a 36-year-old entrepreneur who has broken an important record. According to reports, she is the first and youngest Nigerian to go into local gold refining.

Teriba, who is the vice chairman of a local firm called Kian Smith Trade & Co. said the local production of gold could triple in the next five years after production while speaking to Reuters in 2018.

She said that her refinery should be able to produce three tonnes of gold every month.
Nigeria’s diverse mineral resources are, however, still very much untapped where they are deposited in more than 500 localities across the country.

The young enterpreneurs added that setting up of the refinery was to be fulfilled by February 2019, while production should start by June of this same year.
In her words;

"It is a five-year expansion plan to get to 10 tonnes a month of gold. Silver will probably go up to about three tonnes a month."

According to her, there are plans to bring in gold from neighbouring countries like Ghana but most of the gold will be sourced from Nigeria.

Nere Teriba holds a degree in Science and a Master's degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Carnegie-Mellon University in Pittsburgh, USA.
