Man Who Complained Of An Earache Had Cockroaches Living In His Ears

Earaches is a casual ailment that happens to most people every once in a while. Most often than not, it goes away naturally.


However, for a certain Mr. Lv, a 24-year-old man who lives in China’s Guangdong province, that was not the case as the cause of his earache turned out to be something entirely unexpected.

The young man visited Sanhe Hospital in Guangdong in October, after feeling an intense pain in his right ear.
"He said his ear hurt a lot, like something was scratching or crawling inside,” Dr. Zhong Yijin said.

Lv explained to the doctors that his family used lights to look inside his ear, and found what looked like an insect. Their suspicions were confirmed when the doctors examined him.

According to Dr. Zhong, there were about a dozen German cockroaches living inside Lv’s ear which included a matured roach and a set of baby roaches.

“They were already running around when they were found,” said Zhong.

The cockroaches were removed using tweezers, leaving minor injuries here and there in Lv’s ear.
Sanhe Hospital’s deputy head of ENT, Dr. Jiang Tengxiang, told the local media that Lv had a habit of leaving open food and snacks near his bed while he slept, which most likely must have attracted the cockroaches.
