2 -Year-Old Abandoned In An Uncompleted Building For Days Without Food, Rescued


A 2-year old boy locked up for several days in an uncompleted building at Zone 5, Agbama Housing Estate,
Umuahia in Abia State has been rescued by Officials of the Gender Based Violence Response Team of the Vicar Hope Foundation.

The child, was reportedly found in the building looking exhausted, dehydrated and malnourished.

Confirming the incident, Mr Raymond Ukwa, the Programme Manager of Vicar Hope Foundation, said that the organisation had gotten a call on Saturday, April 25, from landlords in the area that a child had been locked up in an uncompleted building.

The foundation had then reported the case to the Umuahia Area Command of the Nigeria Police Force. The Area commander, Ekeinde Odion gave the go ahead order to officers to break into the building and rescue the child.

According to some neighbours, who pled anonymity, the child’s parents were fond of locking him up for days without food or water, adding that they sometimes pass food through a crack in the wall of the building to him.

Investigation into the circumstances surrounding his abandonment in that uncompleted building has been taken up by the relevant authorities.
