HIV Cure: A Second Patient Permanently Cured Of HIV

Another patient has been cured of (human immunodeficiency virus) HIV after undergoing a stem cell transplant
treatment.

Doctors revealed this on Tuesday, after finding no trace of the infection 30 months (2 years and 6 months) after he stopped antiviral treatment.

The said ‘London Patient’, who also is a cancer sufferer and originally comes from Venezuela, received cells from donors who are immune to the virus, that is to say they have a rare genetic mutation that prevents HIV from taking hold in their bodies.

HIV is a deadly virus that attacks the cells that help the body fight infection, making an infected individual more prone and vulnerable to other infectious diseases.

HIV spreads through contact with certain fluids from the body of an infected person, and the most common is during unprotected sex, or through sharing injection drug equipment and other sharp objects that can easily cut through the skin.

When left untreated, HIV leads to AIDS (acquired immunodeficiency syndrome), an even deadlier disease. The human body can’t get rid of HIV and once you have HIV, you have it for life. No effective HIV cure existed until this revelation from doctors.
