ECOWAS Court Summons President Buhari Over Lekki Massacre

The President Muhammadu Buhari-led government has been summoned by the ECOWAS Court of Justice in Abuja over Lekki Massacre.

Recall that a Lagos State panel of inquiry found the Nigerian military to be culpable in the shooting and killing of unarmed citizens protesting against police brutality at Lekki in October 2020.

In the panel's report, which was leaked just hours after it was submitted to the Lagos state government, it found out that there had been 48 casualties, 11 of which were killed, and four people missing, during what it described as a “massacre”.

Notifying the Federal government over a suit filed by filed by Patrick Eholor, the ECOWAS court gave FG 30 days file for defence or be ready to be served judgement in their absence.

Samuel Ihensekhien jnr, Chief Patrick Eholor’s legal Representative, while speaking on the pending suit said that if the Lagos State Government and FG thought that Lagos State #endsars panel report will be thrown into the dust bin, they better have a rethink in this regard, as the case is just a prelude and first step in getting reparation for victims of the lekki toll gate killings.
