Hunter Butchers Farmer To Death Over Traps In Delta Men of the Delta State

Police Command have arrested and detained three suspects over the murder of a 60-year-old farmer, identified only as Emmanuel in Orogun community.

Reports gathered revealed that the farmer was allegedly hacked to death by a hunter, named Akporuaro Monday, for continuously setting traps on his (hunter’s) farm despite warnings.

 The hunter was said to have killed the victim after warning him severally to stop setting traps for games in his territory.

 Sources reportedly told journalists that the said farmer refused to heed the warning until things took a turn for the worst on October 30, 2021, when the hunter allegedly killed him.

 In a letter to the Orogun Divisional Police Officer, Israel Joe, a rights activist called the police to ensure justice was served, claiming that the police were trying to coerce the victim’s family into taking settlements. He noted that after the incident, the suspect ran away from the community, prompting the police to quickly arrest his son.
 Here's what he said;
“He was forced to return and report to your station that he murdered the victim and not his son, hence his son should be released.

 “The IPO is alleged to have been convincing the family to accept settlement against the ethics and laws of the Nigeria Police Force. The family of the victim wants nothing but justice.

“A case of murder goes beyond the jurisdiction of a division and such issues should be transferred to the state CIID (Homicide) for further investigations and prosecution.”
