Hisbah Arrests Youths For Wasting Their Time Playing Whot Games


The Hisbah Command has arrested a group of youths who were playing a popular card game called Whot, in Kano State.

It would be recalled that in August, the Hisbah banned displaying mannequins in the state, saying that the inanimate figures were promoting idolatry.

 “Islam frowns on idolatry. With the head on it, it looks like a human being,” the commander-general, Ibn Sina had argued. 

 Also the Hisbah had in past few months, also arrested young men for doing stylish haircuts or dressing too “Western”, in the state.

 According to a statement the board released on Friday, the crime of the young men who were arrested in Warawa town, was that they were “wasting their time” playing the card game instead of using their time for a more productive venture. 

 The Hisbah board subsequently gave them some chapters of the Qur’an and ordered them to recite it. Taking to their Hisbah Facebook page to announce the arrest, the Hisbah board wrote; 

“The Warawa division, under the general command of the Commander-General of Hisbah Dr Muhammad Haroon Ibn Sina, has arrested some youths for wasting their time to play Whot.

 “The divisional office therefore shared some chapters of the Holy Qur’an to them to recite for them to utilize their time.”
