According to reports, the doctor was arrested on Wednesday, November 17, after the commissioner of police received a letter written by the Basic Rights Counsel Initiative (BRCI) and signed by Principal Council, Jane Ibor, on November 9.

The letter read in part;
“We received a report from our client in the company of her mother (name withheld) at our office on the 3rd day of November 2021. Our client recounted her ordeal at Mount Zion Medical Centre situated at No. 36/38 Off Yellow Duke, Calabar South which began on the 22nd day of October 2021 when she was admitted as a patient in the hospital.
“According to our client, Dr Idem led her into his consulting room and instructed her to totally UnCloth but when she hesitated, he insisted and said that all doctors who examine or check patients with difficulty in breathing require the patient(s) to fully UnCloth for proper examination. He then assisted her to pull down her clothing.
“He, thereafter, placed a stethoscope on her bare chest severally, and after a few minutes dropped it and leaned his weight on her and started groping her breast while moaning. The assault continued through the three days she was on admission in the hospital. We have video, audio and screenshots evidence that can support your investigation.
“Sir, we trust you will use your good office to investigate this case in the interest of public safety and ensure that justice is served.”

A source however revealed that the doctor, immediately after he was nabbed by the police, started feigning mental illness.
“He is currently feigning madness after arrest and his Lawyers insist he sees a psychiatrist. He has been taken to the Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital, Calabar,” the source said.
