Security Agents Allegedly Kill Shi’ite Member On Gov. El-Rufai’s Orders

Security operatives allegedly acting on the orders of Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, have reportedly killed a
member of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN), also known as Shi’ites.

According to reports from Reflections Online newspaper, the Shi’ite members were preparing to come out for their Ashura Day Procession when combined security forces and thugs attacked them in Kaduna metropolis.

It would be recalled that Sheikh Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, the Shi’ite leader, was arrested after his group clashed with the convoy of the Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Buratai, in Kaduna in 2015.
During the raid on his home, he and his wife were injured, apparently severely, and there had been concern that the injuries would be lethal. Since then, he has been in government custody.

Zakzaky has never been tried, and there have been regular IMN demonstrations calling for his release, often accompanied by bloodshed.

Although there have been court orders granting him bail, the Nigerian Government has failed to release him, upsetting his followers.
