How Akpabio Allegedly Diverted N100m For School Fence Construction In Ikot Ekpene

According to reports, the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Sen Godswill Akpabio, was awarded a N100 million

contract, for the construction of a school fence about three years ago, but is yet to start the project.
In August 2017, former Minority Leader who represented Akwa-Ibom Northwest Senatorial District in the 8th Assembly requested for a contract for the fencing of a Federal Government College in his constituency, in a memo addressed to the Chairman, Senate Committee on Niger Delta.

A document seen by  SecretReporters allegedly showed that while sitting as a member of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) Committee, Akpabio  was awarded a contract for the fencing of the old site of the college in Ikot Ekpene to himself at a whopping N100,000,000 (One Hundred Million Naira); contrary to the provisions of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

However, without any regard for the welfare of his constituents, findings showed that more than three (3) years since the contract was awarded and funds said to have been fully released, no work has been done or carried out on the site neither were contractors mobilized to the site.

According to residents, the said College is being mistaken for a Primary School owing to the fact that it still stands without a fence despite gulping half a billion Naira as seen in the document.
Sources also revealed that the project which has been left undone by the Minister, has given a sharp rise to crime in the area as hoodlums in the community have not only vandalized valuables in the School but have also turned it into a den for carrying out criminal activities.
