The Tiny Mistake Hushpuppi Did In 2017 That Led To His Unmasking And Arrest

Raymond Igbalodely, popularly known as Hushpuppi had a flamboyant lifestyle, and even worse, liked to flaunt it on social media, which was the beginning of his downfall.

Everyone is bound to make mistakes every now and then, and Hushpuppi made his when he received funds through a suspicious email address as far back as 2017, and then flaunted it online.
This kept him on the FBI and Interpol radar.

The billionaire, Hushpuppi, is probably the most familiar name amongst Nigerian youths. He has been mentioned in songs and has been in the center of controversies; from exchanging words with singers like Davido, Phyno and KCee to calling out celebrities for wearing fake designers, he was always in the news.

This prompted a vast inquiry into his source of income. There was little confirmation and more hearsay until he took to Snapchat to ask some of his friends for money. In response to those asking what he did for living, he said he begged for a living. Looking at the facts that subsequently emerged, one would think he actually meant it.

In a bid to show off his rich friends who send a lot of money to him, Hushpuppi uploaded a screenshot of GTBank credit alert of NGN300,000 with an email address. The bank account was registered with a suspicious email address – jwoodscrane@yahoo.com

So, a “social engineer” (SE) took this email address and ran it through a virtual mail registry. Then, performed a number of mappings to determine the social profile of this anonymous identity. When the SE compared the email from the virtual registry with the email from Hushpuppi‘s bank alert, it was a 100% match.

But this was not the end. A step further to put a face to the mail address was also done and it's seen that the email address was mapped to a single profile on Facebook, no suggestions or similar profiles at all. It is mapped directly to a single Facebook account: Jane Woodscrane.

The account had just a few pictures with the usual Facebook privacy feature turned on, which according to reports, is very peculiar with Nigerian scammers.
According to the SE, Hushpuppi probably has more aces up his sleeves beyond creating fake accounts and using such to get money from unsuspecting individuals.

This is how he was unmasked and subsequently arrested after almost three years of patiently monitoring and surveilling his transactions by the FBI and the Interpol.
