It was reported sometime in May that the Imo State Government had said it would set aside N100 million and N50 million monthly for the payment of gratuities to state government pensioners and local government council pensioners respectively.

In a communiqué released on Monday in Owerri, the government announced that the payment is in addition to the release of all statutory deductions due to the Local Government Pension Board and Local Government Service Commission.

Speaking on the issue, an eyewitness said;
 “After months of relief under the Rebuild Imo state Administration, Pensioners are on the road again in protest over non payment of Pensions.
“This is a total departure from the positive foundations put in place by the Rebuild Imo Administration. This sight was never expected in Imo state again but no thanks to the APC led Government.
