Amotekun Arrests Another Set Of Illegal Chinese Miners (Photos)

Amotekun corps in Osun State has on Tuesday, May 19, arrested yet another set of Illegal Chinese Miners of gold at Osu in Atakummosa East Local government.

Led by DG Amotekun Osun, Comrade Amitolu Shittu, the China nationals were caught in the act and bundled into Amotekun vehicles.

This is not the first time, Chinese Illegal Miners have been arrested. Recall that atleast 27 illegal miners, including 17 Chinese, were arrested in the southwestern Nigerian state of Osun about a fortnight ago.

The 17 Chinese nationals were arrested, alongside 10 Nigerians, including a local traditional ruler. The arrests took place five months after a report by the local website revealing that a “large” number of illegal miners pursued from the northwestern state of Zamfara had been carrying out their unauthorized business in Osun, broadly working for Chinese firms.

The report has left arguments on social media calling on authorities to take action to stop the illegal activities in Nigeria.

The arrests also came few days after Nigeria’s lower chamber of parliament decided to probe the legality of Chinese nationals and their businesses based in the country.
