Over a hundred buildings have been destroyed in the early hours of Saturday following an explosion that
rocked Ondo State.
The explosion happened in the wee hours of today, March 28 at Eleyowo, Akure, along Owo-Akure highway at about 1 a.m.

According to residents, everyone was already asleep when a deafening loud bang was heard in the area.
Aina Awawul Secondary School, a full boarding school was destroyed beyond repair in the explosion. Also affected in the explosion was one of the most popular churches in Akure, Possibility Ground Ministry, as well as a filling station and hundreds of buildings.
The highway was also cut off by the explosion leaving hundreds of travelers stranded.
Police officers and other security agencies are already at the scene of the explosion, assessing the situation. As of the time of this report, no death has been recorded but many were feared injured.
Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, reacting to the incident, said through his Twitter handle;
“I’ve been briefed by security agencies in the state concerning the loud blast that was heard in Akure. I will be at the scene to assess on the advice of heads of our security agencies. I ask that all citizens remain calm as we ascertain details of the incidence.”
