IED Explodes In Secondary School, Chops Student's Hand Off

There was chaos in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, on Thursday, following an explosion that rocked Glory Land High
School, Azugwu.

An object suspected to be an improvised explosive device (IED), exploded at the school during the break hour and shattered the left arm of an SS2 student simply identified as Chibuike, while some other students sustained various degrees of injuries.

A student, who spoke on condition of anonymity for fear of being singled out and punished later by the school authority, confirmed the incident saying: “I was in the school when the device exploded. I can’ t tell what it

was. But I saw Chibuike playing with the thing before it exploded. “It’ s like he came to school with it; nobody knew what it was. The thing chopped off his left hand. He has been taken to hospital.”

Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Ebonyi Police Command, DSP Loveth Odah, also confirmed the incident that the main victim was allegedly playing with the device when it exploded.
