Kogi Elections: INEC Official Rejects Bribe Given To Him By Politicians


Evans Azubuike an associate professor and an Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) official has returned a N50,000 alleged bribe given to him to
compromise electoral results in Igalamela/Odolu Local Government Area, Kogi State.

Evans, who is a returning officer for the local government, disclosed the development while announcing results from the local government area today, 17th November.

While making the broadcast, he revealed that a supervising presiding officer (SPO) told him that a presiding officer (PO) gave the money to him.

In his words;

“The SPO reported to me that the PO reported to him that he was given money to influence the result. He collected the money and the money is N50,000.

“Then he handed over the money to the SPO, then to the PO and finally to me. I have the exhibit here,” he said while displaying the envelope that allegedly contained the money the audience.

When Mr. Azubuike was asked where the money came from, he replied that the PO has a report and it is indicated that the money was from an unknown person.

Mr Azubuike also did not mention any party name as being responsible for the bribe, he however said that there were cases of disruption in five polling units of the local government.
